Our History

Founded in 1984

The Islamic Education Foundation of NJ (IEF) was originally founded in 1984 as ‘Al-Ghazaly School’ offering K-12 classes at the site of the Islamic Center of Jersey City near Communipaw Ave. The pioneers of this effort aspired to establish an Islamic environment for future generations.

It was the first Islamic School to serve the Muslim population in Northern NJ. As the community grew rapidly in the 1990s, 3 mosques (ICJC, ICPC & NHIEC) worked together to expand islamic education by forming the current IEF organization.

Years of Growth

The IEF purchased 2 additional buildings in 1995.

The first building in Prospect Park, NJ became the site of a second elementary school, Al-Himah.

The second building in Teaneck, NJ became the site of our flagship Al-Ghazaly High School.

Since that time the IEF schools have graduated some of the most successful Muslims in America and recognized as one of the premier Islamic institutions in North America.

40 years & onward

To further serve the growing second/third generation of Muslims in NJ, Al-Ghazaly High School moved in 2013 to to a new campus in Wayne, NJ on Black Oak Ridge Rd where it currently resides.

As we approach our 40th anniversary and as the NJ Muslim community continues to grow rapidly, the IEF recognizes the challenges of educating our children have only compounded during these years.

With the will of Allah, we promise to continue serving the community as we achieve our mission of cultivating civic-minded, professionally successful, God-conscious Muslim leaders.
