A midterm is an exam, project, or evaluation given halfway through an academic term (quarter, semester, or trimester). It measures how well you understand the material covered up to that point.
Key Details:
Format: Can be a written test (multiple choice, short answer, essays), a practical lab exam, or a major project/presentation depending on the subject.
Grade Weight: Midterms usually account for a significant portion of your overall course grade—often between 10% and 25%.
Timing: Generally scheduled around October/November (for Fall semesters) or March/April (for Spring semesters), or right after Winter Break in mid-to-late January for schools on a block schedule.
