BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

  • GHS 369 Passaic Avenue Fairfield, New Jersey, 07004 United States (map)

Back to School Night serves as a vital bridge between home and high school, designed to give parents a clear picture of their student's daily academic experience. Parents generally follow a shortened version of their child's daily schedule, moving from classroom to classroom to meet each teacher and spend a few minutes learning about course structures, required materials, and grading criteria.

Teachers outline their curriculum goals, major projects, and expectations for homework and classroom behavior. They explain how standard coursework aligns with graduation tracks, advanced placement paths, or vocational programs, giving parents insight into what their teenager will be learning over the coming year.

School staff provide demonstrations on navigating the online parent portal, which tracks attendance, assignment submission, and current grades in real time. Parents also receive guidance on teacher office hours, preferred email communication methods, and tips for supporting academic success at home.

Representatives from school support services, including guidance counselors, college advisors, and school nurses, present available resources to help students thrive academically and emotionally. Auxiliary organizations, such as booster clubs, PTSA chapters, and education foundations, also host tables to explain volunteer opportunities and fundraising efforts that support school activities.
